Benjamin Fernandez, a sophomore at Matilda Torres High in California, placed second in the Division 3 boys final at the Central Section Championships by covering the 5-kilometer layout in 15:48.99 at Woodward Park in Fresno, Calif. Fernandez helped Torres place all seven athletes in the top 25 to secure the Division 3 crown with a 37-121 victory against Porterville, one year after capturing the Division 4 team championship. The Toros will compete Nov. 25 at the CIF State Cross Country Championships at Woodward Park.
